fourpillars.online is an educational resource explaining the principles and terminology of BaZi — the Four Pillars of Destiny, a traditional East Asian system of chart interpretation. We cover how the eight characters of a birth chart are constructed, what the Five Elements and Ten Gods refer to, and how the solar-term calendar underlying the system actually works.

This is not a fortune-telling service. We do not read charts for individuals or make claims about anyone's future. Our purpose is to explain, in clear language, how a centuries-old interpretive tradition is structured and what its practitioners mean by the terms they use.

What We Cover

• Foundations — Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, the sexagenary cycle, and how the four pillars are assembled
• Five Elements and Ten Gods — the generating and controlling cycles of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, and what each of the Ten Gods designates
• Reading structure — how the Day Master anchors a chart and the order in which practitioners work through it
• Calendar and solar terms — why the Chinese solar calendar matters, and how boundary times affect the hour pillar
• History and schools — the development of Ziping BaZi, and where classical and modern approaches diverge

What We Do Not Cover

The following are outside the scope of this site:

• Definitive predictions about anyone's future — wealth, marriage, lifespan, or otherwise
• Guidance on medical conditions, treatment, investment, lending, or legal matters
• Talismans, name changes, ritual services, or any paid remedy — we neither provide nor broker these
• Endorsements of specific practitioners, consultants, or businesses

Who This Is For

We write for readers who have encountered BaZi but got stuck on the vocabulary, who received a reading and could not follow the reasoning behind it, or who have a scholarly interest in East Asian intellectual traditions.

When technical terms appear, we define them first, provide the original Chinese characters, and supply the background a newcomer needs before moving on.

Editorial Standards

• We write only what we can verify. Where sources are unclear, we say so. Where schools disagree, we present the disagreement rather than picking a winner.
• We do not overstate. Words like "always," "guaranteed," and "one hundred percent" have no place here. Conditions and exceptions are stated alongside general rules.
• We do not assert validity. BaZi is not an empirically validated science. It is a system of interpretation with a long history. This site explains how that system works — it does not claim the system is true.
• We revise. When we find an error, we correct it and update the revision date on the article.
